A new opportunity for health care coverage is available until June 30, 2020
At Blue Shield of California, the health of our members and communities is top priority – now more than ever.
To help Californians meet their health coverage needs during these uncertain times, Covered California has created a new opportunity to enroll more clients in health care coverage. Blue Shield fully supports this change and will allow the extension for Off-Exchange enrollment (direct).
Since the requirement is effective immediately, you can enroll any uninsured and eligible client in a Blue Shield Off-Exchange plan until June 30, 2020.
How to submit applications during the extended SEP
Your clients can now submit applications through June 30, 2020, as part of the new QLE. However, because the requirement is effective immediately, online applications may display and quote an effective date that is different from the coverage effective dates in the table below.
When submitting online, select the “Other” Qualifying Event and further specify “other.” The effective date will be adjusted for applications submitted with this new, other Qualifying Life Event (QLE).
|Coverage effective date||Application submitted between these dates|
|April 1, 2020||March 20-31, 2020|
|May 1, 2020||April 1-30, 2020|
|June 1, 2020||May 1-30, 2020|
|July 1, 2020||June 1-30, 2020|
This QLE only applies to new enrollments, and retroactive coverage dates are not offered. If your clients decide to take advantage of this QLE, they may still have to pay a prorated penalty for the time they did not have coverage – depending on when the coverage becomes effective.
